Satoru Iwata, President and CEO of Nintendo Co. LTD and Nintendo of America has passed away Sunday at the age of 55 due to Bile Duct Growth, a rare form of cancer.
Iwata began his career with Nintendo in 2000, and later took on the role of President in 2002.
Iwata was the fourth ever president for Nintendo working on the continuation of The Legend Of Zelda, Mario, and Animal Crossing games during his 13 year career that has been unfortunately cut short.
The success of the Wii is also largely attributed to his work with the company.
Nintendo had reported in 2014 that Iwata would not attend E3 due to medical reasons with an upcoming surgery.
With his death the role of Representative Director will be taken on by Genyo Takeda and Shigero Miyamoto.
