The group has also taken ownership of the attacks against League of Legends, Path of Exile, and World of Warcraft. It does not seem that personal information has been stolen and Sony is aware of the attack. They are working to get things up and running as soon as possible.
Network update: our engineers are aware of the issues and are working to resolve them. We’ll keep you posted – sorry for the inconvenience — PlayStation (@PlayStation) August 24, 2014
(Update)
The hacking group seems to be more than just a small annoyance to Playstation’s Online Service (and now Xbox Live). They have also sent a bomb threat to the plane carrying the Sony Online President.
.@AmericanAir We have been receiving reports that @j_smedley‘s plane #362 from DFW to SAN has explosives on-board, please look into this.

The hackers are taking things to an extreme level and are openly mocking the FBI’s pursuit of their group.
