Playstation Network down due to DDoS attack | Other services disrupted (Update)

The Playstation Network has been down since early this morning (August 24) and a hacking group dubbed “Lizard Squad” is taking responsibility for the attack.

The group has also taken ownership of the attacks against League of Legends, Path of Exile, and World of Warcraft. It does not seem that personal information has been stolen and Sony is aware of the attack. They are working to get things up and running as soon as possible.

(Update)

The hacking group seems to be more than just a small annoyance to Playstation’s Online Service (and now Xbox Live). They have also sent a bomb threat to the plane carrying the Sony Online President.

The hackers are taking things to an extreme level and are openly mocking the FBI’s pursuit of their group.

Check back here for more updates on how this continues to unfold.
